Prism Optical portable measuring microscopes accurately and precisely measure small specimen.

They are commonly used for:

  • measuring depth of cracks or structures (metal or concrete failure analysis)
  • particle size and quantity in a medium (metal particles in oil)
  • workshop inspection (inspection of machined parts)
  • high magnification of field microscopy and
  • simply inspecting fluorescing materials (glues, insects, etc).

How to use

  • Turn on the illuminator (torch)
  • Focus on the top of the specimen
  • Adjust the scale ring on top of the focus knob so that it reads ‘0’, or note what this starting reading is
  • Re-focus on the point of interest (depth reading)
  • Note the new position on the focus ring scale
  • Subtract the starting reading from the depth reading to get the reading
  • Multiply the scale factor (from the graticule) by the total magnification to get the multiplier
  • Multiply this by the multiplier by the reading
  • This is the total depth in the units used in the scale factor

Example using a 100× Portable Measuring Microscope

The TP603 is a low cost alternative for replacing older cameras that have reached the end of their service life.

This camera has a 1/2″ CMOS sensor, which is the same size as many older cameras. This allows for a direct upgrade of camera while using the same c-mount adaptor (0.5×).

It also has a USB2 data connection to maintain compatibility with older computers.

This is not an old camera – it features a good quality 3MP sensor (MT9T001) and reasonable frame rates (8FPS at 2048 × 1536, 22 at 1024 × 768
43 at 680 × 510).

This multi-scale calibration slide is our most useful slide for general microscopy. It has it has four different scales for calibrating and confirming accurate measurement for all levels of magnification.

The reflective markings are accurate, and resistant to immersion oil and most standard cleaning solvents.

Since the markings are reflective, these slides are suitable for most illumination types including transmitted, reflected, and oblique.

The scales

  • Scale 1 – Standard Micrometer

    10mm in 0.1mm divisions

    The first pattern is a standard micrometer.

    It is 10mm long and has 0.1mm divisions with the 0.5mm and 1.0mm marked.

    Each 1.0mm increment is also numbered.

  • Scale 2 – Grid with Micrometer

    1mm in 0.01mm divisions

    This pattern is useful for calibrating higher magnification objectives, checking horizontal & vertical measurements, and ensuring that images have correct square pixels.

    The 0.05mm and 0.1mm divisions are marked.

  • Scale 3 – Large dot

    0.15mm diameter dot

    The third scale is a 0.15mm dot.

    Is it useful for very quickly checking that calibrations are accurate.

  • Scale 4 – Small dot

    0.07mm diameter dot

    This is a 0.07mm dot.

    Used for the same checking process as the large dot, but at higher magnifications.

  • Live stitching
    Like the panorama feature in our mobile phones, the live stitching feature joins captured images in the X and Y planes. Simply move the mechanical stage, and Mosaic V2 automatically joins the image live.
  • Extended depth of field (EDF)
    EDF joins the image in the Z plane. By adjusting the focus all the way through the specimen, Mosaic automatically joins the in-focus part of the image. This is a fast, easy, and cost effective replacement to z-stacking hardware.
  • High dynamic range (HDR)
    HDR images can be captured by adjusting the image exposure. This joins otherwise under and overexposed image parts to produce an image with excellent overall detail.

Versatility is built into every feature. The USB3 port can be used for computer control or as a USB drive, while also displaying the image over HDMI.

Gigabit Ethernet allows remote operation or even multi-client streaming. With a little work, this camera can be used as a webcam, either standalone for viewing on multiple clients, or via a PC if audio needs to be overlaid.

With an ergonomically excellent frame, high-definition optical image, and a simple operating system, the RX50 meets all the needs of research in scientific, medical and other fields.

High performance stage

Excellent engineering
Two-way linear driving mechanism protects the stage from overloading at the end of its movement range while also improving rigidity and performance.

Special attention has been paid to the design of the stage. It features anti corrosive and anti-friction surfaces.

Superb ergonomics
Stage movement control stem can be placed on either side of the stage. Controls are in a low position for comfortable operation.

Efficient workflows
The slide holder can safely accommodate two slides at the same time.

Large stage (187 x 168mm) with wide movement range (80 x 55mm precision: 0.1mm).

Robust & versatile frame

Modular frame for excellent versatility
The RX50 has been designed to be modular, woth separated cross arm and main body. This gives the system compatibility with a wide variety of contrast and fluorescence options.

Very sensitive coaxial fous control
Focus control is precise and accurate thanks to a double-stage driving mechanism, adjustable tension and upper limit stop. The coarse range is 25mm and fine is 1μm.

Outstanding viewing head
The viewing head has amazing optical anf engineering features, including a multi stage beam splitter (100:0, 20:80, or 0:100), wide beam imaging system, and a FN26.5mm super wide filed of view.

12V100W halogen transmitted light with preset and adjustment-free centering.

N.A.0.9 swing-out type achromatic condenser, with iris diaphragm and aperture scale.

Integrated light barrier to reduce stray light especially when using fluorescence.

Powerful fluorescence

Multifunctional reflection illumination
The RX50’s rotary filter holder holds 6 fluorescence filters. Switchable and indexed, changing filters is simple and quick.

Filters are made from imported materials and further contributes to drift-free fluorescence micrscopy.

Precise light control
Neutral density filter, field and aperture diaphragms to help shape and moderate the light.

Manual light shutter to totally quench the fluorescence module.

UV blocking light barrier.

Centering objetived to correctly align the the filament centre.

Power control system for mercury lamp
The RX50 has a new digital power control system which indicates operating time and the working state of the mercury lamp.

New power supply and control systems

A new 100W EHV DC mercury lamp house improves thermal management to greatly reduce the surface temperature of the lamp house.
A 75W xenon lamp system is also an option.
